Tokopedia B2B E-Procurement

Buyer Order Management for B2B purchasing

Project Overview

Tokopedia is the biggest C2C e-commerce marketplace in Indonesia. B2B E-Procurement was kicked off by Tokopedia's internal procurement team to take their procurement process online and make it easier, quicker and more effective, from finding suppliers right through to purchasing and billing.

Buyer Order Management (BOM) is where buyers keep track of what they've bought, both while the seller's still processing it and after it's arrived. Unlike everyday C2C orders, it deals with high-value B2B transactions.

TL;DR

The MVP of Buyer Order Management couldn't even handle the first internal transaction, so we went back and refined it. We interviewed 13 buyers, benchmarked five competitors, and tested wireflows with five procurement specialists, which led to a rebuilt order list dashboard and a proper order detail page.

I was the UI designer in a team of three designers. I chipped in on the early wireframe ideas and owned the high-fidelity design, icons, illustrations and interactions.

Context

How going digital helps procurement

It all started in late 2019, when our stakeholder, the procurement team, needed help hitting the goals above. They asked us to look at how they were doing procurement, dig out the pain points, and suggest fixes or improvements.

I worked as the UI designer alongside a UX designer, Mario Yaputra, and a researcher, Nabila Fajriani. I brought the UI side to the early wireframe ideas and designed the high-fidelity prototype, including pixel-perfect screens, icons, illustrations and interactions.

BOM is one of the most important tools in any e-commerce product, and B2B wasn't something we dealt with day to day. So it was important to go in with a proper understanding and plenty of empathy, so the feature could genuinely help buyers manage their transactions.

What follows is the refined version. The original MVP of BOM didn't cover the basic features needed to run the first internal transaction. To be honest, we thought it'd be enough to hit our objective. It wasn't.
