Zero Gravity Tutor

Zero Gravity Tutor

An AI tutor that guides, not answers

Project Overview

Zero Gravity Tutor is a mobile-first study app for students. Its AI tutor talks them through their work step by step, rather than just giving them the answer.

I designed the concept the app's built on, and then the bits students use most: the message box where everything starts, the illustration and thumbnail system, lessons, and practice.

TL;DR

The app had grown one feature at a time, with nothing really holding it together. I rebuilt it around whichever subject a student's studying, cut the navigation down to four places, and made one message box the front door to everything. Then I designed lessons that make students think, a practice page that always has a first step, and over 100 illustrations in one style.

The concept went live on 26 August 2026 and is now the foundation for the rest of the app. Quizzes start in about 7 seconds, down from 50.

The beginning

An app that had grown one feature at a time

Zero Gravity Tutor helps students study with an AI tutor that talks them through their work rather than just giving them the answer. But the app had grown one feature at a time. Students had to work out where things were, switching subjects felt like starting all over again, and lessons were one long page of text that was easy to scroll straight past.

I designed the concept as a working prototype in July 2026. Dan took it into the real product and rebuilt everything underneath, and Joe built the lesson structure and the quiz, which I then redesigned.
